Sold for delivery in April 2022, Project Cosmos is the largest yacht to date to be built by Heesen. Moreover, at 80.07 metres, 1,700GT and with a top speed of 29 knots, Project Cosmos will be the world’s largest and fastest full-aluminium motoryacht with conventional propeller propulsion system.
As Heesen states: “Thanks to the revolutionary FDHF devised by van Oossanen and four MTU 20V diesel engines, Project Cosmos will continue Heesen’s long-standing tradition of pushing the boundaries with head-turning yacht design, smart technology, and outstanding performance.”
Naval architect Perry van Oossanen explains the technical complexity:
” The unique part of Project Cosmos is the length of the hull in combination with the aluminium. It is indeed the world’s largest aluminium monohull motor yacht of which the challenge is in creating a sufficiently stiff and strong construction. The novel solution we found was to develop a hull shape which provided much more form stiffness than ordinary hull forms, while still ensuring the superior performance characteristics as embedded in the Fast Displacement Hull Form principles. With the help of CFD analyses the FDHF has evolved into new dimensions in order to realize the efficiency and comfort that it is renowned for. We also set up an extended tank test program. All of this resulted in a comfortable hull, reaching 29 knots within a solid and safe construction.”
Winch Design was appointed by the owners to create a streamlined yacht with innovative design traits. His extensive use of glass, combined with soft and sculpted shapes makes Project Cosmos a contemporary charming ‘racehorse’.
Some of the most notable features are a fully-rated helicopter landing pad for a Eurocopter EC135 that transforms into an outdoor cinema with stunning effect, a crystal elevator from the lower deck to the sun deck, a breath-taking seven-metre pool, and a sumptuous beach club with a sunken walk-around bar and large transom and side platforms.
A full-custom limousine tender by Winch Design and forward tender garage are also included. The yacht accomodates twelve guests in four suites on the lower deck, a VIP with adjacent private studio on the bridge deck, and a striking master stateroom on the main deck forward. In total nineteen crew in eleven cabins will be able to discretely service the guests.
