Van Oossanen Naval Architects proudly welcomes Doug Schickler as Senior Naval Architect, further strengthening the firm’s expertise in high-performance yacht and ship design.

Doug brings a wealth of experience in naval architecture, composite engineering, and finite element analysis (FEA). He has contributed to some of the world’s finest custom yachts, including Alithia, the 130’ Abeking & Rasmussen cruiser, Kuka Light by Soleri, an advanced canting keel racer, and other highly acclaimed bespoke and small-series yachts.  Doug also adds breadth in the areas of multihull design and engineering, for example the Gunboat G4.

Doug’s career has also been deeply intertwined with elite level yacht racing. He has been part of the design teams for +39 Challenge (32nd America’s Cup), Luna Rossa (36th America’s Cup), and American Magic (37th America’s Cup). Luna Rossa won the challenger selection series using foils and foil systems designed with his efforts.  Originally, from the United States, Doug has lived in the Netherlands for over 20 years and is now eager to bring his expertise to Van Oossanen’s dynamic team.

With Doug’s expertise, we can offer both our yacht and ship customers more in the areas of composites, FEA, and foiling,” said Perry van Oossanen, Owner/Director of Van Oossanen Naval Architects. “This is a tremendous addition to our current services, allowing us to push the boundaries of naval architecture even further.” Doug will work closely with the Van Oossanen team to explore the best projects that align with his skills and expertise.
